Saudi Arabia’s labour market has never been more competitive. Unemployment among Saudi nationals is near record lows, multinationals keep opening regional headquarters in Riyadh, and new technology investment is creating leadership roles faster than the market can fill them.
A tighter, more ambitious market
Official figures for the first quarter of 2026 put unemployment among Saudi nationals at 6.4%, with unemployment among Saudi women down to 9%. For employers, that means strong competition for experienced Saudi professionals, especially in technology, finance and transformation.
Around 600 foreign companies had set up regional headquarters in the Kingdom by March 2025, and LEAP 2026 added nearly $15 billion of technology announcements, including new cloud regions and data centre capacity. Each of these creates senior roles in Riyadh that did not exist a few years ago.
What employers are now looking for
Leaders who build Saudi talent
Developing Saudi successors and teams is a core part of the role, not an extra.
Delivery, not just strategy
Programmes are moving from plans to execution. Proven delivery leaders are in demand.
Regional scope
RHQ roles often cover the wider Middle East and Africa from Riyadh.
Five steps for employers hiring in the Kingdom
- 1Plan your Saudi leadership pipeline early. With low unemployment, experienced Saudi leaders are rarely available at short notice.
- 2Hire for build and transfer. Ask international candidates how they have developed local successors before.
- 3Sell the mission, not just the package. Leaders move for scale and impact. Explain what they will build.
- 4Make relocation easy. Housing, schooling and family support decide more offers than salary alone.
- 5Keep the process tight. Strong candidates in Riyadh often have more than one conversation running.
Saudi Arabia is no longer only hiring leaders to run things. It is hiring leaders to build things, and to build people.
